Focus on Teaching: Award-Winning Teachers Reflect
This annual series celebrates excellence in teaching and mentoring by Stanford emeriti/ae faculty. Each program features individuals who have received university teaching awards and offers them an opportunity to share their approaches, insights, and values. The series is co-sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning, and is open to the full Stanford community. It was launched in Winter 2026.
Current Year Presentation
February 26, 2026. The inaugural speaker in this series was Professor Sheri D. Sheppard, Richard W. Weiland Professor in the School of Engineering, Emerita, in a talk entitled, “It’s Not About Me 101.” Professor Sheppard’s innovative teaching and mentorship have earned her Stanford’s highest teaching award, the Walter J. Gores Award and the 2014 U.S. Professor of the Year Award from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Recording available here.
