The Stanford Emeriti/ae Community consists of approximately 1200 emeriti/ae faculty and emeriti/ae staff from across the University, as well as the spouses or partners of living or deceased emeriti/ae. They have contributed to Stanford's excellence over many years and strive to remain engaged with their colleagues and the University.

The Stanford Emeriti/ae Council is a representative group of up to sixteen emeriti/ae faculty and emeriti/ae staff from across the university.  The Council is supported by the Provost and Faculty Development and Engagement, a unit of the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement  Formed in 2002, the Council seeks opportunities for continued emeriti/ae service to Stanford, fosters community among emeriti/ae retirees and their spouses or significant others, and advocates on their collective behalf within the university.  A Council member serves ex-officio on the university Faculty Senate, representing emeriti/ae faculty interests.  The Council sponsors lecture series, social gatherings, other groups and events, and facilitates collaborations within and beyond the university.
